Some films get sequels due to their popularity and success while others get sequels because they are well made. And then there is 2003’s straight to video mediocre film that vanished without a trace and did not even get 750 votes on IMDB nine years later. This feature is neither wanted nor needed and somehow manages to be even more badly constructed than the predecessor. Bur La Marre seems to have forgotten everything he knew a decade ago, and most filmmakers accrue at least a bit of technical skill over their career. This feature relies on everyone remembering the atrocious original film rather than trying to rise to the occasion.
Only La Marre and Lamont Clayton are back this time, and there is a suggestion that Cassie is a member of some female outlaw settler gang, but neither Charli Baltimore nor her character appears to have been in it. She’s locked away with the combination to a military safe and, for some reason, tells her cellmate Collette (Pratts) the entire plan about how to break the safe about two minutes into their conversation. During a botched attempt to escape, Cassie gets shot, but Collette with her inside information, manages to join the gang, who spend what feels like an eternity sitting around a hotel room. Eventually, they do make it to San Juevo, ready to fight while being hunted by Lee (Casseus) and his gang who want vengeance on the women. Yes, even though those women are not the same as the ones in the first film. That’s the level of coherence you can expect from this.
Somewhat of a troubled production, apparently with Taylor and La Marra brawling on set, which I am sure did a lot to improve the creative atmosphere. But not even the most desperate publicity stunt could save this vile mess, which contains exactly two decent scenes, one with one of the Roses talking to the pastor of San Juevo church and another with a schoolgirl. That is all. The action is horribly staged the film’s budget couldn’t even run to fake blood, it seems and it’s a merciful release that the film runs for 15 minutes less than I had braced myself for. The balance is made up with La Marre’s entry to the 2012 World’s Most Undeserving Amusing Recollections competition. It’s a sure winner there, the only possible award for which this possesses any chance.
