“Enter Nowhere” is a supernatural mystery/thriller featuring Katherine Waterston, Scott Eastwood, and Sara Paxton. It starts off in a fashion that may seem generic to the point of being outdated there’s a store robbery scene with Sara Paxton and her boyfriend, which is followed by Katherine Waterston strolling through the woods facing a broken-down car. She discovers a cabin and is later interrupted by Scott Eastwood. Waterston then wakes up to find Paxton dozing off on the porch of the cabin with her. It seems like they are trapped in the woods.
Everything is awfully puzzling in a way that makes me think that the viewers have experienced this before, repeatedly. There were these certain assumptions that I started to make about the plot and the conclusion of the film. If only I were that lucky. It bewilders me how wrong I was. I am not going to say what is really going on in this film because it really should be viewed and experienced without knowing exactly how it concludes.
This is an incredibly limited cast, the main three actors I have discussed along with some minor actors are the only ones who feature in this film. The cast was serviceable, if not great, and for a film of this nature, did not need to place in too much effort. This is a good independent film that portrays the point of this review, which is to show how brilliant movies can be made without millions of dollars being spent on them.
The most positive factor of this film is that the story is well grounded and the script is tight; which is concise and to the point. Shawn Christensen and Jason Dolan have constructed a tale that does not give too much away and focuses on the remaining details later on. They achieve this and leave the crowd in wonder about what is really going on, slowly revealing pieces in order to provide an answer. I found, too, that during the process, as the narrative progressed, I would reach to certain conclusions regarding the story only to be taken aback further as new information is provided.
This film has an unsettling effect that is often attributed to Beast’s composer or even scary music. Jack Heller, the director, claims he didn’t rely on on-screen actions like jump scares to achieve his objective. The director does not appear to be creepy while he is trying to evoke fear, isolation, and helplessness. He does achieve this effect and many others. The audience witnesses the characters trying to escape a cabin, setting out in a direction that is opposite to the cabin only to walk right back to it. The vibes that we get from the woods are even more unnerving than the vibes types of films gives you. The director instead, intends to let us ponder the question of how would we feel if we were placed in the shoes of those characters who are trying to perform simple tasks like going for a walk and discovering ao around them only to land back where they started. The woods are in its essence scenic. The woods shine when the sun is out and Nearly all the action takes places.
So, in this instance, I would classify this as not an amazing film but a good one. There is no gore, very little violence, and definitely no nudity, so do not expect any thrills or chills. ‘Enter Nowhere‘ offers its audience a different sort of experience that is somewhat strange. It is a simple, straightforward tale that unfolds slowly. I believe it is worth a watch.
